Travel Grants

1. Travel Grants for young professionals from Countries 3-5 categories

UMAC and ICOM Greece with the support of the University of Patras will offer four (4) travel grants of 1,500 euros each for young professionals aged 40 or younger from countries 3-5 categories, especially from Africa, to attend the Annual Meeting on "University Museums as Actors for Sustainable Development" in Patras, Greece, October 12–16, 2026. 

A special workshop will be organized to encourage young professionals curating small university collections to upgrade them, to University Museums opening them to the public while connecting academic research with public understanding and action and activating all aspects of a university museum. 

Who can apply: 

• Young professionals with ICOM membership under 40 years from countries of 3-5 categories that curate university collections and wish to upgrade to University Museums in the lens of Sustainable Development Goals

What expenses will the scholarship cover?

Expenses must be paid in advance by the candidates, who will be reimbursed only AFTER THE CONFERENCE, based on original receipts and credit card statements to be submitted to the UMAC treasurer.

• Round-trip airfare or train tickets from the participant’s home country to Athens

• Transportation from Athens Airport to Patras (excluding taxis)

• Accommodation and meals in Athens

In addition:

• Grantees are exempt from the registration fee

• Grantees are exempt have access to the Day trip with no fees

• Accommodation in Patras and meals for 4 days, from October 11 to 15, 2026 are provided by the University of Patras

• Scholarship recipients may participate in the excursion on October 15, 2026 free of charge

• Participation to Museum visits organized by the Conference are free of charge for all participants

2. Travel Grants for young professionals or Phd students or aged 40 or younger

Three (3) Grants of 400€ each will be awarded to young professionals or Phd students aged 40 or younger to facilitate their attendance to the Conference. They will be funded by ICOM SAREC.

Eligible expenses

Expenses must be paid in advance by the candidates, who will be reimbursed only AFTER THE CONFERENCE, based on original receipts and credit card statements to be submitted to the UMAC treasurer.

• Round-trip airfare or train tickets from the participant’s home country to Athens

• Transportation from Athens Airport to Patras (excluding taxis)

• Accommodation and meals in Athens and Patras

In addition:

• Grantees are exempt from the registration fee

• Most meals in Patras for 4 days, from October 11 to 15, 2026 are provided by the University of Patras

3. What are the obligations of those receiving a grant?

• Being under 40 years old

• Be ICOM member the year of application

• Participate in different sessions, workshop, museum visits and events

• Present a poster to the Poster session

• Write a report on their experience

• send invoices of expenses to UMAC treasurer

Important notes for all travel grants

1)    In all cases, expenses must be paid in advance by the applicants, who will only be reimbursed AFTER THE CONFERENCE, on the basis of original supporting documents and credit card receipts to be submitted to the UMAC treasurer.

2)    If the total amount of the supporting documents provided is less than the allocated amount, only the actual costs will be reimbursed to the grant recipient.

3)    If the total amount of the supporting documents provided exceeds the allocated amount, the amount reimbursed will correspond to the grant amount.
